 On October 23, 2010, Supervisor Greg Cox participated in the annual Surgery Day event, which provides free surgeries and procedures to people in desperate need of medical care and outpatient services. The event is organized by Project Access San Diego, a project of the San Diego County Medical Society. Patients are referred to the program by a community health center. Hundreds of volunteers from area hospitals donated their skills and services to provide the surgeries and procedures. Supervisor Cox has been a longtime supporter of Project Access, helping to find the seed money needed to launch the program in 2008. |

Supervisor Greg Cox talked with one of San Diego’s homeless veterans during Registry Week, which began on Monday, Sept. 20. The program’s goal is to survey homeless people in downtown San Diego and identify the most vulnerable individuals who could die on the streets without help, and get them the immediate help they need. The County of San Diego is providing $2.1 million in services for the program over the next three years.

Supervisor Greg Cox and San Diego Chargers star cornerback Quentin Jammer at the site of the proposed football stadium for the San Pasqual Academy football team. Supervisor Cox led the development of the Academy, which opened in October 2001 as the nation’s first residential education campus designed specifically for foster teens. The Academy provides foster teens with a stable, caring home, a quality, individualized education, and the skills needed for independent living. Jammer and Supervisor Cox met at the Academy on October 26, 2010.

Supervisor Greg Cox celebrated Bike to Work Day on May 21, 2010 by visiting a Chula Vista pit stop sponsored by the South Bay Family YMCA. Supervisor Cox handed out refreshments and encouragement to the many bicyclists who pulled into the pit stop that day.

Home residents Marilyn Gaylor (Left) and Florence Harris (Right) enjoyed playing the video games. Veterans at the home will be able to use the Wiis for rehabilitation, to get healthier and to just have fun! |

Chairman Cox and Vice Chairwoman Dianne Jacob delivered information about meth abuse to residents of the community of Imperial Beach to kick off the countywide "Get off Meth" campaign. The campaign is intended to encourage residents to support suspicious activity or get treatment.

Chairman Cox rolled up his sleeve and gave blood at the County Administration Center on September 26, 2008 as part of the County's month-long blood drive. Supervisor Cox has given more than 100 pints of blood and earned a ten gallon hat for his efforts. |

On July 26, 2008, Chairman Cox and local elected officials and community leaders cut the ribbon to open the Mary Augustine Bridge. The 264-foot bridge provides a safe route for hikers, bikers and equestrians to cross over the South Bay Expressway. |

Chairman Cox and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger toured the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista on July 18, 2008. The Supervisor initiated the Governor's visit to the training center to cheer on local athletes who were heading to Beijing, China for the Olympics. |

Supervisor Cox helps adjust the safety helmet of a youngster who just got a new bike at the annual bike giveaway organized by the Citizen's Advisory Committee of the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. Refurbished bikes were given to about 100 deserving children on December 21, 2007. |
