Clinton/Dole Legislation Answers San Diego County’s
Call for Help
Calling for 2-1-1 Act Introduced Today Could Support
Local Non-Emergency Number
WHO: Chairman Greg Cox, San Diego County Board of
Supervisors
WHAT: Media availability to discuss how the Clinton/Dole
Calling for 2-1-1 Act
could help San Diego County create a non-emergency help line
WHEN: Wednesday, September 17, 2003
1:30 pm
WHERE: Office of Chairman Greg Cox
Room 335 of the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway
WHY: Actor George Clooney and a bipartisan group of
federal legislators will gather in Washington DC Wednesday morning to
introduce the Calling for 2-1-1 Act sponsored by Senators Elizabeth
Dole (R-NC) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) along with Representatives Richard
Burr (R-NC) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA).
The Calling for 2-1-1 Act could help boost San Diego County’s
fledgling efforts to establish a three-digit telephone number, 2-1-1,
that anyone can use as a resource to access the vast array of services
available to help children, families and people in need. Once implemented,
2-1-1 would work in much the same way as 911, but for non-emergency assistance.
Earlier this year, Chairman Greg Cox created a 2-1-1 Leadership Committee
in San Diego to jumpstart the local effort to implement the project.
