Supervisor Cox Hosts Free Event for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
CHULA VISTA -- County Supervisor Greg Cox hosted a free event Saturday for grandparents who are raising their own grandchildren.
About 300 people attended the South Region Grandparents Raising Grandchildren symposium for grandparents and relatives raising a young family member.
The event was held at Harborside Elementary School in Chula Vista.
The event provided resources, skills building, legal guardianshop options, a career resource fair and opportunities for caregivers to learn from each other's experiences.
Breakfast, lunch and childcare were provided. Spanish interpretation was made available.
Supervisor Cox launched the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren initiative after noticing a growing problem of grandparents suddenly forced to raise their own grandchildren and navigate a maze of challenges and issues they weren't prepared to handle.
"This event gave grandparents and others the tools and assistance they need to help raise their families," Cox said.
