Click to view larger imageThe Bayshore Bikeway is a 24-mile bicycle facility around San Diego Bay. Currently, approximately 13 miles of dedicated bicycle paths are in use on the Bikeway. The rest of the facility consists of on-street sections designated as either bicycle lanes or bicycle routes. Future planning and development for the bikeway is being coordinated by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).

During his tenure as a member of the Chula Vista City Council and as Mayor of Chula Vista, Supervisor Cox championed the completion of the Bayshore Bikeway. Today as a member of the County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Cox serves as Chairman of SANDAG's Bayshore Bikeway Advisory Committee. The Bayshore Bikeway Advisory Committee was established to promote improvements to the 26-mile bikeway around San Diego Bay. Currently, the City of San Diego is developing a new section of bike path between Imperial Beach and Chula Vista that will replace the current routing along Palm Avenue in South Bay.
